현대종교에 많은 선교사들의 자료 요청이 들어오고 있다. 해외에서 사용할 수 있는 영어로 번역된 이단 자료가 필요하다는 것이다. 그래서 현대종교는 매월 한 단체씩 이단단체에 대한 정보를 영어로 번역해 게재하고자 한다. [편집자 주]

 

Cho Seok Lee, a founder of Jesus Centered Church is recognized as an imitator of Ki Dong Kim, a emonologist. Mr. Lee’s main theory is based on the Ki Dong Kim’s demonology and his exorcism performance is a main event in his assemblies. He has been decided as a heresy, based on his extreme occultism and wrongful interpretation of the Bible, by conventional churches in the Republic of Korea (“Korea”).

 

예수중심교회 대표 이초석씨를 가리켜 혹자는 “김기동 귀신론의 아류”로 평가한다. 이씨의 주된 사상은 김씨의 귀신론과 연결돼 있으며, 귀신을 쫓아내는 축사에 기반을 둔 집회 활동이 대부분이다. 따라서 이씨는 극단적 신비주의 추종과 주관적 성경해석으로 한국 교계에서 “이단”으로 결의됐다.

 

Who is Mr. Cho Seok Lee?

 

Mr. Cho Seok Lee (real name: Choon Seok Lee) was born in Seoul, on November 21st, 1951. He graduated the Paul Seminary established by the Presbyterian Church of Korea in 1984 and founded ‘Jerusalem Church’ in Gwangmyeongsi, Gyeonggi-do. However, in December 1984, he was expelled from the Presbyterian Church of Korea, since he pursued extreme exorcism and Mr. Ki Dong Kim’s demonology. He moved his church to the Soong Eui dong, Namgu, Incheon city and changed the name of church to ‘Korea Jerusalem Church’. In 1985, he organized a group named ‘Choseok Jesus Mission’ (as known as “Jesus Centered Mission”) and became the group’s leader.

 

 

이초석은 누구인가?

 

이초석(본명 이춘석)씨는 1951 년 11월 21일 서울에서 출생했다. 1984년 예장성합 측 바울신학교를 졸업한 후 경기도 광명시에 예루살렘교회를 개척했지만, 김기동씨의 “귀신론”을 추종한다하여 1984년 12월 교단으로부터 제명처리 됐다. 이후 이씨는 교회를 인천시 남구 숭의동으로 이전해 교회명을 한국예루살렘교회로 개명했고, 1985년 “초석예수전도단(현 땅끝예수전도단)”을 조직해 단장이 됐다.

 

He launched public assemblies of Percy Collet who insists that he visited the Heaven, for the period from May 8th to June 18th in 1988 and the media gave attention to Mr. Lee for these assemblies. The media passionately gave attention to Mr. Lee, since he cured Percy Collet who fell down on the stage during one of his assemblies. His church expanded based on his media exposure. In 1991, he was decided as a heresy, again, but he has been acted as a pastor and spread his influence toward the society.

 

1988년 5월 8일부터 6월 18일까지 천국에 다녀왔다는 미국 펄시 콜레의 “천국성회 간증집회”를 유치하면서 세간에 주목을 받기 시작했다. 특히 단상에 오르다 쓰러진 펄시 콜레를 안수기도해 살려내는 등 능력을 과시했고, 이러한 명성(?)에 힘입어 교세는 급속도로 성장하기 시작했다. 1991년 한국 교계로부터 “이단”으로 결의됐지만 변함없는 행보를 유지하며 교세를 확장하고 있다.

 

Main arguments of Jesus Centered Church

 

Mr. Lee’s main arguments are based on the exorcism and demonology. He interprets the Bible based on such demonology and exorcism, and this approach is out of range of conventional church’s interpretation of the Bible.

 

예수중심교회 주요 주장

 

이초석씨의 주요 주장은 “귀신론”에 바탕을 두고 있으며 귀신론에 맞춰 자의적으로 성경을 해석해 정통교회의 믿음의 고백에서 크게 벗어나고 있다.

 

1) Existence of corrupted spirits

 

Mr. Lee argues that the spiritual existences corrupted and degenerated are “Satan, evil spirits, and ghosts”. He argues that evil existences have their own hierarchy and classes to act within the world.

 

1) 타락한 영들의 정체

 

이씨는 타락해 변질된 영적 존재를 가리켜 “마귀, 악령, 귀신”이라고 주장한다. 그는 악한 영들이 마치 계급을 형성한 것처럼 조직을 이루어 활동하고 있다고 주장한다.

 

Satan: “The dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan” quoted from Revelation 20:2 means the one fallen angel, Satan. (...) He had a name called ‘Luciel’ and he was a leader of arc angels in the Heaven. (...) He forgot his position and became too prideful to be at such position. He said “I will become just like God

 

and I will high-en my throne. I will be at the position same with God’s.” It was a treason against God (...) That is why we call him as a Satan, Demon, and opponent. (What is the reason of disease, the biggest enemy of human race, Cho Seok Lee, pp.44~45)

 

마귀: 요한계시록 20장 2절에 “옛용이요 뱀이요 사탄이요 마귀라”하는 존재는 단수(段數), 곧 한 명을 말하는 것이다. (중략) 그는 원래 하늘나라에서 하나님을 찬양하며 하나님께 영광 돌리던 천사들 중의 장(長)으로 루시엘(Luciel)이란 이름을 가지고 있었다. (중략) 그가 자신의 위치를 망각하고 스스로 교만해져 “내가 하나님처럼 높아져 저 천상위에 나의 보좌를 높이리라. 지극히 높으신 하나님과 비기리라”고 하며 하나님께 반역의 마음을 품었던 것. (중략) 그래서 우리는 이 땅에서 그를 타락한 자, 하나님께 대적했던자, 사단이요 혹은 마귀라고 부르고있다. Role of Satan: Satan acts for making conflict between human race and God and separating us from God. This separation causes humans to suspect God, to be tested, and to become ill. The final goal of Satan is to destruct human race. Satan tries to make people hate each other and to destroy people’s peaceful church lives. Also, Satan causes disease and sickeness to people by sending a ghost to such people’s soul and flesh. (What is the reason of disease, the biggest enemy of human race, Cho Seok Lee, p. 46)

 

마귀의 역할: 하나님과 나 사이에 쐐기인 귀신을 박아서 하나님으로부터 멀어지고 또한 하나님을 의심케 하고 시험에 들게 하고 병들게 해 결국은 우리 인간을 파괴시키는 것이 그의 목적인 것이다. 또한 나와 남 사이를 이간질해 괜히 이유없이 미워하게 하고 오해를 불러일으키게 하며 싸움을 시키며 남과 공동생활을 평화롭지 못하게 하는 쐐기를 박는 것이 그의 목적이요 나의 영과 나의 육 사이에 귀신을 투입해 쐐기를 박음으로 우리 몸에 병을 일으키는 것이다. (『인류 최대의 적 병, 그 원인은 무엇인가!』, 이초석, p.46)

 

Evil Spirit: In Jude verse 6, quote “one third of the fallen angel did not keep their position and abandoned their own home, and he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great day”. Also, in 2 Peter 2:4, quote “for if God did not spare angels when they sinned but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment”. 악령: 마귀와 함께 하늘나라에서 하나님께 반란을 일으키려 마음을 먹었던 삼분의 일의 타락한 천사는 자기 지위를 지키지 아니하고 자기 처소를 떠났으므로 큰날 심판 때까지 영원한 결박으로 가두셨다고 유다서 6절에 말씀하시고 또한 베드로후서 2장 4절에 하나님이 범죄한 천사들을 용서하지 아니하시고 지옥에 던져 어두운 구덩이에 두어 심판 때까지 지키게 하셨다고 기록하고 있으니 이들이 악령이며 바로 타락한 천사들이다. (『인류 최대의 적병, 그 원인은 무엇인가!』, 이초석,p.48)

 

Role of Evil Spirit: Evil Spirits are advisers and messengers of Satan and they support the Satan’s kingdom. They manage ghosts for capturing more people. They are spiritual existences wandering around. (What is the reason of disease, the biggest enemy of human race, Cho Seok Lee, p. 49)

 

악령의 역할: 마귀를 도와 사탄 왕국의 참모로서 그의 사자(使者) 역할을 하는 자들인데 그들은 귀신들을 부려서 한 사람이라도 더 자기네 수중에 넣으려고 우는 이리떼와 같이 떠돌아다니는 영적 존재들이다. (『인류 최대의 적 병, 그 원인은 무엇인가!』, 이초석, p.49)

 

Ghost(Deceased un-believer): Psalms 106:28 prescribes an event which God did harm the Israel people who yoked themselvesto the Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods. According to this event, it is obvious that, after their death, un-believer becomes spiritual existence who forces people to offer sacrifices tothem. (…) Acts 16:16 describes Baal’s ghost as a spirit which predicts the future and this shows that the fortune telling is a ghost’s game which plays with Christians (believers) (…) A fortune teller with a ghost is controlled by such ghost, spirit of the deceased unbeliever. 귀신(불신자 사후의 존재): 시편 106편 28절에 이스라엘 백성들이 죽은 자에게 제사하며 음식을 먹는다 하여 격노하신 하나님께서 재앙을 내린 사건이 기록돼 있다. 이것으로 보건대 예수를 믿지 않고 죽은 자들이 이 땅에서 제사를 지내게 하는 영적 존재가 된 것이 분명하다. (중략) 사도행전 16장 16절에 보면 바울에게 드러난 귀신은 점을 쳐주는 귀신이라고 말하며, 우리 믿는 사람이 점을 보는 것은 귀신의 장난에 놀아나는 것임을 알려주고 있다. (중략) 신접한 무당이 귀신에 의해 움직이며 유혹한다는 것도 자세히 드러내 주고, 그 귀신은 불신자의 사후의 영이라 말씀하신다. Role of Ghost: A ghost is an existence which causes disease, curse, poverty and sins to humans. I declare that a ghost is a spirit of deceased un-believer. (…) A ghost has its own personality which combines to the host’s personality and it gives its own disease and illness to the host human. Therefore, such ghost shall be expelled. If not, you will be damaged and harmed by it. (…) We must realize the existence of ghost which causes poverty, car accident, suicide, various diseases. Also, we must realize that such ghost shows itself via the host person and it reproduces the situation when he/she dies. 귀신의 역할: 이 귀신이 우리 인간이 병과 저주와 가난과 죄악을 일으키는 원인 제공자라는 것을 밝혀두며 나는 오늘 귀신의 정체가 불신자 사후의 영이라는 것을 밝히고자 하는 바이다. (중략) 귀신은 자기가 이땅에 살 때 가지고 있던 인격을 그대로 자기가 들어간 사람에게 접목시키며 또한 자기가 앓던 병을 그대로 그 육체에 접목시켜 준다는 것을 잊지 말고 추방하지 않으면 당할 수 밖에 없다는 것을 명심하기 바란다.(중략) 우리를 가난하게 하는 귀신, 자동차 사고 나게 하는 귀신, 자살하게 하는 귀신, 각종 병을 들게 하는 귀신들은 모두가 자신의 옛 속성을 그 사람들에게 드러나게 하며 또한 자신이 죽을 때 상황을 그대로 재현시켜준다는 것을 깨달아야 한다. According to the General Assembly Report of the Korea Baptist Convention published in 1988, Mr. Lee’s insistence that “the ghost is a spiritual existence of a deceased unbeliever” was criticized as follows:

 

1988년 기독교한국침례회 총회보고서에 따르면 “불신자 사후의 존재가 귀신”이란 주장에 대해 다음과 같이 비판했다.

 

“Mr. Lee’s insistence on the existence of ghost, a spirit of a deceased unbeliever is from a traditional spiritism, not the Holy Bible. In the Holy Bible, after someone’s death, a spirit of believer directly goes to the Heaven and a spirit of unbeliever goes to hell and they will wait for the judgment day. This is explained in the event of the

 

rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19~26). Also, Jesus Christ said to the criminal hung with Jesus Christ “ I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise (Luke 23:43)” and his answer to the criminal proves that spirits of deceased directly goes to the Heaven or hell. Furthermore, in the Holy Bible, Satan is a part of the fallen angel, an existence who is not kept in Apollyon (2 Peter 2:4, Jude 1:6), but released to the world (Ephesians 6:12).”

 

“사람(불신자)의 영이 귀신이 돼 세상을 떠돈다는 주장은 전통적인 정령숭배 사상에서 나온 미신일 뿐 성경의 가르침은 아니다. 성경은 신자건 불신자건 사람이 죽으면 육체를 떠난 영혼은 즉시 신자는 낙원으로 불신자는 음부로 들어가서 다가올 심판의 날을 기다리게 된다고 가르치고 있다. 이 사실은 나사로와 부자의 이야기 가운데서 분명하게 설명됐으며(눅 16:19~26) 십자가 우편의 강도에게 예수께서, 내가 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니 오늘 네가 나와 함께 낙원에 있으리라”(눅 23:43)라고 하신 말씀도 이를 증명하고 있다. 또한 성경은, 마귀는 타락한 천사의 일부로서 무저갱(벧후 2:4; 유1:6)에 감금되지 않고 세상에 풀려나온 존재라고 가르치고 있다(엡6:12).

 

2) Ghost, the Cause of All Diseases

 

Mr. Lee concludes that all diseases are caused by ghost. Furthermore, Mr. Lee has insisted that ghost is a deceased unbeliever’s spirit and Jesus Christ came to the world for teaching us that the ghost causes all diseases. Based on his theory, Mr. Lee insists that exorcism cures the sick people.

 

2) 모든 질병의 근원은 귀신

 

이씨는 모든 질병의 원인이 귀신이 라고 단정 짓는다. 더 나아가 이씨는 불신자 사후의 존재가 귀신이고, 이 귀신이 질병을 가져다준 사실을 알려주기 위해 하나님이 예수를 이땅에 보냈다고 한다. 이러한 논리로 이씨는 사람의 육체에 들어온 귀신을 쫓아내야 병을 치료받을 수 있다고 주장한다.

 

▶ After deep study on the Bible, I realized that ghost, servent of Satan causes all and any diseases to humans (What is the reason of disease, the biggest enemy of human race, Cho Seok Lee, p.17)

 

▶ 깊이 성경을 연구한 끝에 인간의 병이라는 문제의 원인을 제공하고 있는 영적 존재는 바로 마귀의 종,귀신이라는 것을 발견하기에 이르렀다. (『인류 최대의 적 병, 그 원인은 무엇인가!』, 이초석, p.17)

 

▶ God who sees human race suffering from various diseases, sent Jesus Christ, his only son to the world from the Heaven in order to teach the people about the origin of disease. Jesus Christ taught us that cause and origin of disease, curse, poverty, pain and sin is Satan, evil spirits and ghost. ▶ 하나님께서는 인류가 병으로 고통받는 것을 보시고 그 병의 원인에 대해 가르쳐주시려 하늘나라에서 이 땅으로 그 아들 예수 그리스도를 보내셨다. 그리하여 이 땅의 병과 저주와 가난과 고통과 죄악의 원인은 마귀와 그의 추종자 악령과 귀신이라는 영적 존재들이 제공하고 있다는 것을 우리에게 가르쳐줬다. (『인류 최대의 적 병, 그 원인은 무엇인가!』, 이초석, p. 16)

 

▶ When a ghost is removed from the flesh of our bodies, we will be cured by God’s rule of creation (What is the reason of disease, the biggest enemy of human race, Cho Seok Lee, p. 17)

 

▶ 우리 육체에 들어온 귀신을 제거한다면 우리를 만드신 하나님의 창조의 법칙으로 완치될 수 있다. (『인류 최대의 적 병, 그 원인은 무엇인가!』, 이초석, p.17)

 

Mr. Lee insists that ghost causes disease and it destroys a person by possession of the person. This insistence criticized by Pastor Chang Kyun Mok that “Bible mentions some events that ghost may cause diseases to persons, but not all diseases in human beings. The insistence on the diseases caused by ghost is based on shamanism.” Also, Mr. Lee insistence naturally arrives at a conclusion that modern medicine may not cure any disease nor illness. As a result, Mr. Lee’s followers who are ill may lose their right chance to take medicine and/or medical help and this lost chance may put his followers in danger.

 

이씨는 불신자 사후 존재인 귀신은 인간의 육체에 들어와 병을 일으키고, 사람의 육체를 멸망시킨다고 주장한다. 이러한 “질병의 원인은 귀신”이란 주장에 대해 목창균 교수(서울신대)는 그의 논문에서 “성경역시 귀신에 의해 병이 일어날 수 있음을 말하고 있으나 모든 병이 그렇다고는 보지 않았다”며 “성서에 기초한 것이 아닌 질병을 혼령의 인체 침입으로 보는 무속신앙에 기초한 것이다”라고 비판했다. 한편 이씨의 주장대로 모든 질병의 근원이 귀신이고 귀신을 쫓아내야 질병을 치료받을 수 있다고 한다면 현대 의학은 질병을 치료할 수 없다는 자연스런 결론에 도달하게 된다. 따라서 신도들은 현대 의학적 치료를 무시해 치료 시기를 놓치게 되는 위험한 결과를 초래할 수 있다.

 

3) The world where people live is hell

 

Mr. Lee insists that this world is the hell mentioned in the Bible and a kingdom in where Satan acts.

 

3) 사람이 사는 세상이 바로 음부

 

이씨는 세상이 성경에서 말하는 음부이며 마귀가 활동하는 왕국이라고 주장한다.

 

▶ God divides human races into two parts: believers and non-believers. In the Holy Bible, believers are people who are redeemed by their faith and go to the Heaven after their death, but non-believers are people who go to the hell via abyss. The hell is at where Satan lives. However, Jesus Christ came to the world and met the Satan. In Matthew Chapter 4, the tempter came to the Jesus. This means that this world is the hell. In other words, this world is a kingdom of the Satan. What is the reason of disease, the biggest enemy of human race, Cho Seok Lee, pp. 52~53)

 

▶ 하나님은 사람을 신자(信者)와 불신자(不信者)로 나누셨다. 신자는 죽은 후에 믿음으로 말미암아 구원을 받아서 낙원을 거쳐 천국에 들어 가게 하시고 불신자는 음부에서 무저갱을 거쳐 지옥에 가게 하셨다는 것을 성경을 통해 말씀하신다. 또한 음부는 마귀가 있는 곳이라고 했다. 그런데 예수께서 이 땅에 오셔서 제일 먼저 마귀를 만나셨다. 마태복음 4장에 마귀에게 시험받은 사건이 기록돼 있다. 그렇다면 이 땅이 음부라는 것 아닌가? 즉 마귀의 왕국이라는 것이다. If this world was the hell, then could the God have said that it was good? (Genesis Chapter 1) Pastor Mok criticized such Mr. Lee’s insistence as follows: “the hell is a place to where the dead souls go, not a place at where people are living. Jesus Christ taught us that dead non-believer stays at the hell and it may neither wander around nor come to this world, in the description of the Rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19~31)”.

 

이씨의 주장대로 이 세상이 음부라면 세상을 창조하신 하나님께서 “보시기에 좋았다”(창1)라고 말씀하실 수 있었을까? 이러한 “세상이 음부”라는 주장에 대해 목창균 교수는 그의 논문에서 “음부는 죽은 영혼이 가는 곳이지, 살아있는 사람이 생활하는 곳이 아니다”라며 “예수님은 거지 나사로와 부자의 비유를 통해 불신자의 사후 존재는 음부에 있다는 것과 이 세상을 배회하거나 이 세상으로는 올라오는 것은 불가능하다는것을 교 훈 하 였 다 (눅 16:19~31)”고 비판했다.

 

Jesus Centered Church tempts Christians by extreme exorcism activities. Mr. Lee’s followers go to the Mr. Lee’s assemblies rather than hospital, when they are ill, since they are persuaded by Mr. Lee’s insistence that disease may be cured only by exorcism. Clear and clever strategies against Jesus Centered Church and Mr.Lee who holds worldwide assemblies and services in every year are required by traditional and conventional churches in Korea.

 

예수중심교회는 극단적이며 열광적인 귀신 축사행위에 기초해 많은 신도들을 미혹시키고 있다. 귀신이 나가야 병이 나을 수 있다는 이씨의 주장에 미혹된 신도들은 병원보다 이씨의 집회를 찾고, 의사의 조언보다 이씨의 설교에 귀를 기울이며, 현대 의학적 치료보다 귀신 쫓는 행위에 몰두하고 있다. 이러한 예수중심교회에 대한 한국 교회의 신중한대처가 요구된다. 특히 해마다 국내외 수많은 지역을 돌며 집회를 개최하는 이씨의 행보에 주목해야 할 것이다.
